BOM and CPL reconciliation

Reference designators, quantities, and rotations are reconciled across BOM, pick-and-place, and drawings before the build.

DNP lists and assembly variants are captured in the build documentation, not left to interpretation.

Inspection planning

Visual and automated inspection points are agreed before the build and documented with it.

Three ways to engage

Prototype PCB assembly

First working units in small quantities, built to your files with any substitutions approved by you first. Findings from the build are recorded so they inform the next revision rather than getting lost between vendors.

Typical inputs: fabrication data, BOM, CPL, and a note on what you intend to test. Partial packages are accepted for an initial review.

Low-volume PCB assembly

Pilot and early production runs on a locked revision, with first-article review where appropriate and build documentation captured for the repeat runs that follow.

Typical inputs: released revision, approved BOM with alternates, test procedure or acceptance criteria, quantities per run.

Turnkey PCBA

Boards, components, and assembly under one order. Sourcing runs against your approved BOM through authorized channels, with lifecycle and availability checks and substitutions approved in writing before purchase.

Typical inputs: fabrication data, BOM with manufacturer part numbers, CPL, drawings, any approved-vendor or no-substitute requirements.

Gerber or ODB++, BOM with manufacturer part numbers, pick-and-place (CPL) file, assembly drawings, quantities and schedule. Most projects arrive with some of this; the file review lists exactly what is missing and nothing is ordered until the package supports it.

Questions about pcb assembly

What is the difference between consigned and turnkey assembly?

Consigned means you supply all components and the facility assembles them. Turnkey means Atherton Forge sources the components against your approved BOM. Partial-turnkey is a documented split, common when you hold long-lead or proprietary parts.

Do you need a pick-and-place file?

For an accurate quote and a clean build, yes — it carries component positions and rotations. If you don’t have one, submit what you have; the file review lists exactly what is missing and how to export it from your CAD tool.

Can you build a few prototypes and then move to production?

That continuity is the point of the service. The same project owner, documentation, and revision history carry from the first units through NPI and into repeat production.
